Well, uh, In this new situation, that is, to help find the way toward mutually beneficial and peaceful global interdependency, we’ll need new intellectual disciplines. Mr. Wada pointed us toward a new type, kind, of area studies.

There is two parts to his paper. Um, the first and by far the longest, ah, is a critical account of the history of development of Egypt area studies in Japan and United States. A second is a vision for a new way for doing Egypt studies. This vision is derived from implications of the historical critique, and ah, in the light of a philosophy of, of intersubjectivity. I will briefly discuss these in turn.
